The Algebra of Abba
As I was typing the VOICE FROM THE VAULT blog, God used this sentence to take me down an interesting little rabbit trail:
OUR HEAVENLY FATHER IS NOT CONTENT WITH OUR CONTENTMENT, BECAUSE HE HAS CREATED EACH OF US FOR A PURPOSE THAT IS FAR BEYOND MERE CONTENTMENT.
As I typed the above sentence, a new thought formed and flowed from my fingertips onto the computer screen:
GOD HAS CREATED US TO BE IN A PURPOSEFUL ADVENTURE WITH HIM, AND FOR HIM… AND ULTIMATELY, TO POINT OTHERS TO HIM.
with. for. to.
with. for. to.
with. for. to.
Here's what I heard next in my spirit:
“FOR and TO are not just words… they are also numbers. Look up the numbers four-two (42) in scripture.”
Here are some Bible verses I found with the number 42:
Psalm 42 (v. 1-2): As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
God created us “with 4 2” [with-for-to] in mind!
He wants us to thirst for Him, as the deer pants for streams of water. He wants us to want to be with Him. And just as the deer quenches its thirst from streams of water, our “Abba, Daddy” wants us to quench our thirst not with things of the world… but with things of His Word. With His presence. With His living water.
Isaiah 42 (v.1): Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit in him…
God created us “with 4 2” [with-for-to] in mind!
He didn’t make us to be selfish and self-serving. He created us to serve and glorify Him, and in so doing, to love and serve others well in our earthly journey. We are His “chosen one”… His “delight”! And when we choose Him….when we commit ourselves to following and serving Him, His Spirit in us is our guide. The Great I AM is our “heavenly navigator” here on earth.
Job 42 (v.1-2): Then Job replied to the LORD: “I know that You can do all things; no purpose of Yours can be thwarted.”
God created us “with 4 2”[with-for-to] in mind!
Just as Job was faithful to the Lord despite losing everything, God wants us to be unwavering in our belief that He can do ALL things. This kind of unmovable faith only comes in close relationship with Him, experiencing His mercy and grace and goodness in the midst of even the worst circumstances and life experiences.
So, what is the Algebra of Abba?
Well, He knows I’m a simpleton with math. So, at the end of my rabbit-trail adventure, I found my fingers on the keyboard typing a simple but quirky little equation.
Our heavenly Father really has created each of us “with 4 2” in mind. It all adds UP to this:
4Him
2Glorify Him
4+2 = 6 ….which is…
The day He created us (Genesis 1:27-31)*
We are in this equation as His “chosen one” and His “delight”!
BAM. Drop the math-bomb mic.
Now that’s the kind of Algebra I can really dig! :-)

*On the 6th day, God created us. (Genesis 1)
